Final Post
In the beginning of the semester I would classify myself as a sporadic reader who goes periods of time without reading anything then finds a series or book he enjoys and rapidly progresses through the books and then has periods without reading again. An example of that is during on summer I did not read for 3 weeks then found a series called Dragonlance and read the triology of 3 books all over 700 pages in about a week. Going into this class I was involved in a 11 book series called the Sword of Truth. Throughout the semester i continued reading this series, but I felt like I slowed my reading purposefully so that I would not hit over the week maximiums by that much, so I would not have to find a new series I was interested in. The blog as you go style was not conductive to how I read because over a long weekend I would read one of the books in the car, so then I spent weeks spreading out the blogs for that book trying to keep the posts around 50 pgs to not include too much of the book in one blog. By the end of the semester I was far ahead of my blogging posts and to get the last amount of one of the books in I had to increase the pg number of posts and finish with a long post. I read whenever I had down time or I got engaged in my book. I cannot read with music, so it was quite where I read. I feel like my reading habits have not changed and I just have more books that I looking into, so I might have less down time between books.
The class kinda changed my attitude toward's poetry because of how we did not necessarily have to find poems with a specific meaning and just liking the imagery was a good enough reason to present it. I also enjoyed how we could pick our own poetry because in other English classes you have to explore poems from older times periods which use old words or try to rhyme and have obscure meanings relating with history while in this class you could just find a poem that you likes for whatever reason and it could have whatever meaning you wanted and then you got to write about that. The way we analyzed poems was unique, but I think it helped develop a different set of writing skills which other English classes missed. The one thing I think the class surprised me about was the reading of the poetry in the tournament setting. I did not think that I would be able to do that well at all but it seemed that it was not as difficult as I stressed it to be.
I enjoyed my semester I Etymology for a variety of reasons. The classes seems to be a relaxed place and most of the assignments were picked or could be personalized by the students. The row of students I sat in enjoy there time in the class whatever the circumstances and even though we may not have focused 100% of the time most of us got what we needed done while having fun. Although some classes I with after-sight I might not have taken, I would have definitely taken Etymology again.

Rachel is visited by her "mother" again and Gratch carries her so she can give someone a message which is suppose to help Richard.
Jagang made contact and informed Richard that he had the choice of surrendering, waiting untill they built the bridge and having the soldiers massacre his palace, try and avoid both and have Jagang open the boxes unsafely, or use Six to get to the Garden of Life. Richard said he would consider the options. Jagang said the surrender required Richard's death and Nicci handed over, but saved his people.
Richard prepared himself to go to the underworld to try and gain what he needed to attempt to govern the powers of Orden and win if he could get close to them. When Richard went into the underworld, the beast followed him. After flashing forward we find out that the beast has trapped him, and Richard only has one option, use magic in a place in doesn't exist. It succeeds in killing the beast, but the recoil was about to kill Richard when we appeared in the spirit house. The Mud people used the spirit ritual to pull Richard out of the underworld just in time to save his life. We find out the Rachel came her and her message was to use this to save Richard a surprising foresight supporting the conclusion that the "mother" was Shota. Richard set out immediately for Tamarang.
Zedd, Rikka, and Tom were all caught by Six spells and were placed in the prison where Richard hid the Book of a War Wizard's Power. They found the book.
With the prolong absence of Richard at the palace they feared the worst and assumed the beast killed Richard in the underworld. Nathan decided to surrender, and they began preparations.
Kahlan still on her journey to Six with Samuel is traveling, but Samuel continues to act more suspicious. He ends attacking her and she is able to kill him by using her Confessor power. Samuel then tells her information she is not suppose to know because it corrupts the sterile field of the Chainfire reversal spell.
Richard found Kahlan soon after and had to indifferent to her new knowledge, but convinced her to come with him towards Tamarang.
They reached Tamarang and found Zed, Rikka, and Tom in the room with the book. Six attacked them, but Shota had bought her time and killed Six through deception. The book was blank. Zed told Richard it was the unwritten rule, and that Baraccus left it for him to know he had to figure it out. They need to get to the People's Palace quickly, so they use Six's dragon to fly there because he knows Richard from his mother and is willing to help.
Richard continues with the surrender to allow him to get close to the Boxes of Orden. Richard figured out what he needed just before Jagang got there. Jagang let the Sisters prepare the spell while he went to get Nicci. Nicci had a collar in her possession and used it to trap Jagang and led him back so he could witness the event. The Sisters completed the spell according to the book, but it failed. Richard figured out the key to the power of Orden was the Sword of Truth. Their safety method was the user had to be able to turn the Sword white as only people acting now out of hate could. Richard forced Jagang to face an insignificant death. Then he used the Sword of Truth to command the Boxes of Orden. With the power he made two worlds one without magic for the Order to suffer due to their own ideology and one for the people of the New World. The world for the Order may eventually come to see the error in their ways, but it is never a short road to eradicating the ideas of evil. The world without magic will be infected with Chainfire to make them forget what happened and insure the erase of magic. The pristinely ungifted asked to go to the world without magic, so that magic could thrive in Richard's world. Kahlan also had her memory restored because she did not violate the sterile field in a different way.
The book ended with Cara's wedding to General Meiffert, and the quote from Richard "Your life is yours alone. Rise up and live it."
The last wizard's rule that was never said is that we cannot accept things unquestionably told to us from our forefathers as fact. Sometimes there are lies and we have to learn the truth for ourselves. Completely belief in the words of the past blinds us to advance our society in a new and better direct.

Confessor pg 443-477
Richard and Nicci recovered from the battle and eliminated the threat of an Imperial Order invasion of the palace for a time. General Meiffert told Richard that Six used a red dragon to attack the group of soldiers and lower their ability to prevent supplies from making its way through. Jagang also destroyed towns which might have considered rebelling losing the force of the rebellion in the Old World. Richard and Nicci combine to learn how to wield their last hope of winning the Boxes of Orden. Richard needs to go to the underworld to retrive the memories to reverse Chainfire and the cyrpt staff helps him find sorceress sand to make his journey. Richard completes the prophecy of the dream weavers too by finding a book that helps him let Jillian cast dreams on the Imperial Order's army ruining there ability to sleep.
Richard's final battle to lead the New World in has always been the battle of the magic of the Boxes of Orden. That is why he was made a war wizard by in the past to ensure victory. His final battle is coming and they highlight a cloth with ink staining through to the other side which must be involved somehow in the use of the Boxes of Orden.

Rachel got to the cave that she was drawn to, and there was a painting of the monsters chasing her and an art spell drawing her there. She found out that she had the gift to use art magic to and used it to make the monsters attack Violet and not her. She also removed the painting holding Richard's gift, but Six found her and is going to force her to be the court artist now.
Richard, Nicci, Adie, and General Meiffert got to the catacombs and used Adie's ability to sneak through by removing the light. Cara by this time had Nathan use his gift to see on the other side of the hallway that was out of place and they found people on the other side. They heard Richard's attack on them and the wall built to hide the Imperial Order Soldiers was removed and a battle broke out. During the battle Richard got his gift back and was able to remove the collar from Nicci saving her, but Adie was severely injured, and the beast appear since Richard's gift returned and he had to defeat that form with an arrow that can break magic barriers.
Richard has rescued everyone, but he still has to eliminate the Imperial Order's army. At this point with the Old World campaign failing his only hope is the Boxes of Orden which Jagang has, so he needs to find a way to get them.

Richard in the final possession (in the beginning of the game he gave them the first possession to make sure he got the last one) scored a 2 point throw to win the game, but Jagang ruled that he went out of bounds before to prevent his victory then he scored another before the end and Jagang overruled that one too for no reason. The crowd became riotous and the thousands watching began to fight.
In the commotion Richard used the time to try and shoot Jagang with an arrow and kill him, but someone moved in the way and took the first arrow so the second only wounded him. After that, Richard made his way to Kahlan, Nicci, and Jillian killing Karg in the process. He started towards the ramp to take the underground passage, but on the way he ran into a Sister who used magic to paralyze him. Kahlan escaped with Samual who showed up during the battle, and before Richard was captured, Adie and General Meiffert returning from the Old World because of some trouble they encountered. They quickly devised a plan to try an sneak there way to the palace.
Jagang's actions contradicted the belief that the everyone in the Imperial Order is equal and to be prideful is a sin. It helps shows the flaws of the order because corrupt organizations do not follow their own rules.

The Sisters of the Dark has been inspecting the Books of Counted Shadows which Jagang has brought them, and they have discovered between all of the books there is one different in one of the spell forms in each of the books. With knowledge or insight into more books they are at a dead end. Jagang decides to go to see the Ja'La games. With the arrive at Richard's game he sees that Nicci is also captured and freezes for a second only to be smashed by those playing around him. He gets up with some difficulty, but goes on to win the game which allows his team to face the emperor's team.
While Richard is recovering for the next game, members of the emperor's team are sent to kill him to insure victory. Richard defends himself while making sure not to kill them which would result in punishment. The owner of the team shows up to end the fight. The actions are dismissed as just part of Ja'La dh Jin. The emperor promised to let Richard's owner Commander Karg have Nicci for a night if his team won the game as a bet, so Jagang has strong motives to prevent their success.
At the People's Palace Adie has decided to leave because with her gift diminished in the place and her being blind without it she is having difficulty functioning and can be better use else where. She is playing to sneak away the night of the Ja'La final game, so she may be some assistance in Richard's plan.
Ja'La dh Jin means the game of life, so there views about it show some truths they believe about the life. When they attacked Richard to eliminate him for victory they saw no problem because although it is not "fair" in life victory means everything to them; morals are secondary. Jagang's bet adds weight to the game that could possible be manipulated.

Wired Family
My family is not really that wired into different realities most of the time. I might isolate myself to do homework on the computer, but normally we eat together as a family and play games, which are some kind of board game or outside activity, once a week. We have busy schedules with school and sports, so sometimes we might not be in the same place at the same time, but we do not exist on different planes due to electronics.
Confessor pg. 259-292
Kahlan is by Nicci's side after the torment Jagang gave her the night before because of he disloyalty. Kahlan comforts Nicci while probing her for answers. She learns that Richard was looking to help her and that Nicci believes that Richard can save them.
At the People's Palace Nathan is searching for Nicci and Ann. He is determined to find them both primarily because of his desire to find Ann. While looking for the the Imperial Order sends a messenger to ask for their surrender. Rather than immediately exterminating the person with the message Nathan decides the tell them he will "consider" it because he wants them to dedicate resources to trying to aim for a surrender that will never happen to buy time. Verna is suspicious wondering if Nathan would not sell them out for his own benefit.
The Woman that Rachel met is probably Shota appearing as someone else. She probably gave Rachel something necessary to help her escape or weaken Six when she arrives. Kahlan delicate questioning to find answers is impressive and how she pays attention to details to find the secrets that Nicci was trying to carefully avoid. Nathan is devious and he idea of buying time is intelligent and shows how sometimes rash actions can lead to missed opportunities.

Jagang likes Nicci and tries to make himself believe that she only helped Richard to try and get his attention and that she could not forsake the ideals of the Order which she use to protect. Jagang shows confedence in his ability to get the last Box, and normally Jagang does not have false confidence which leads me to believe that he has a deal with the Six to help him. The decisive moment of the battle might depend on Richard getting his gift back to take the power of the boxes.
Jagang shows a belief in something that is not true because of his wish for it to be true. He tries to come up with an idea of how Nicci could still be on his side and because of his desire for it to be true he believes it. This is a breach of the Wizard's First Rule which warns that people are foolish and belief lies because of a desire that it is true or a fear that it is true.

Nicci used the sliph to explain the problem at the Wizard's Keep to Nathan and Ann. She told them how they knew the Keep's magic was failing and that it could be side effects to the magic in the People's Palace. She also told them how she put a Box of Orden in play under Richard's name. This was greeted with hostility at first, but like Zedd they soon understood the necessity of it. Nathan told Nicci that the actions has secured them facing the Great Void, and Richard is there only hope of escaping it.
Ann wanted to talk to Nicci for a while. Nicci agreed so that she could try and gain information on Six because now she had one of the Boxes of Orden that Nicci needed to recover, but Ann had other motives. Ann wanted Nicci to try and become Richard's woman in his life. Although Nicci would have loved to fulfill that role she showed great restraint as Richard's friend to explain that Kahlan was real and who he deserved.
Nicci constantly shows an excellent job of representing how friend should act by thinking of what benefits Richard and not only thinking of herself.

Nicci woke up from the battle with Six due to Zed's healing. She expected to die, and was confused in how Zed was able to fight her power. Zed explained the witch women draw power from the spells you cast, so you have to use low power spells to combat them of face the effects of your own spell. There is also a problem with the Keep. Due to magic failing it's barriers are falling and the walls are bleeding. It needs to be shut down with magic to be preserved. Nicci also figured out why a sterile field must be used in the reversal of Chainfire. Kahlan's emotions have to be led by her experience, so Richard cannot tell her his relationship to her until he completes fixes the spell.
Zed makes a wonderful point of interest when talking about how to combat a witch women. Sometimes you want to fight things we your full force but reason before action works the best. Sometimes the weakness of your enemy is not your strongest force, but a clever use of a small force.

Kahlan with Jagang watched Richard fall a realized that it was on purpose. Trying to think of a reason why someone would commit such and act, she figured out that he was hiding his face the same way she was using her hood to watch her guard. This gave farther evidence that Richard was on her side. Following Jagang, she found out what the discovery was. They had found another of the buried libraries in the Azrith Plain. In it they also found a Book of Counted Shadow. While there, guards come back with Jillian captured. She did not get away in the end even after Kahlan's struggle for her, and now Jagang has a tool to get Kahlan to do what he wants.
Richard uses red paint to mark his men. At first his men were hesitate, but soon they were fighting to be next. The symbols he used were adapted forms of the symbols of a war wizard to explain the movement of the dance of death and some were symbols from the Boxes of Orden, but they were combined in new ways original to prevent the Sisters from recognizing the spells. He saved one unique element for himself. He placed the lightning bolts of the Con Dar on his forehead. Con Dar his tided to the Confessor power it means Blood Rage.
Kahlan and Jallian were following the Emperor around as he watched the games. We learn how Ja'La games are played. They have 2 goals at opposing sides, and one team is the offensive for a period of time. They have to get the broc into the opposing goal by throwing it from behind a 1 or 2 point line. There is one "safe" block on the field that the other team cannot touch you on, but then they just surround you, and wait you out. The defense cannot score during their other team's period, but they can steal the broc. each team gets so many periods then as many as it takes to have a lead on their opponents. Besides that there are not rules; the game is meant to be bloody and to involve fighting and a struggle. Kahlan sees Richard's team in the paint, and everyone is astonished at their appearance.
The Ja'La game is a mirror of life in some manners. Their is no "safe spot" in life and the safe spot in the game becomes a trap to lose or face many at once. Life is a struggle; some may not consider it fair, but life is not always fair you have to fight the opposition you face and most of the time it is easier to try and dodge the struggles with planning then charge into them. The Con Dar emphasizes on Richard's intention in saving Kahlan regardless the consequences.

Rachel feels an urge to go somewhere, but it is no explained well. It seems she may be being charmed by Six, but I am uncertain why Six would need her at this point. Rachel's urge is making her race somewhere though.
The power of Orden under Richard's control expresses Nicci's and Zedd's trust in Richard's fundamental value, life. We are all only given one life and it is the greatest gift that we can ever receive. Life gives us all the opportunities we have. Existing gives us choices which can lead to many different places. Life can seem discouraging at times because we have to do things that we might not necessarily like, but most times the reason we struggle through those difficulties is so we can enjoy one of the benefits of living. Our lives our in control of only ourselves we have all the choices, so have consequences and some have rewards, but all lead us down a path.

Kahlan is still thinking about seeing Richard. She cannot place her feeling for him, but has great reverance and infatuation of him for reasons she cannot understand. While thinking on what she can do, Sister Ulicia begins convulsing. When she finishes she tells them that someone else has put the Boxes of Orden into play and that the time has reset.
The book began with a new beginning of the struggle, a new cycle to try to control. The Order is still has a clear advantage, but with all battles advantages do not decide the outcome. This is the last book of the series it is the end, but it starts with a beginning of the struggle again. Richard will have to fulfill the prophesy and lead them through this darkening time or the world come be forfeit.

Richard returning to the keep runs into Berdine. She tells him about how her studying of Kolo's journal has been going to give them insight into the events surrounding the Great War. She has found information about Baraccus. He was questioned as a traitor at the time and there were rumors going around, but Berdine found some other information in a book of prophecy that was talking about the copying of a key and hiding them among the bones. Richard realizes that the key is the Book of Counted Shadows and that the Sisters of the Dark have learned this too, so they are going to use them to try and release death on the living. He rushes to the sliph to warn Zed and come up with a plan with everyone racing behind him.
From learning about the new books he now knows that the Sisters of the Dark are at Caska and will likely confront them when he has a good opportunity, so he can go help his troops south. Six is going to come into play soon because they are crafting a spell around Richard and have one of the Boxes so it is likely that both groups will converge on Six and Violet.

Nicci and Cara were obviously alarmed by that time and forcing Shota away from Richard prepared to take any force necessary to protect him. After a menacing exchange of threats Richard began to understand Shota's attempt to show him what he must see. Richard as Shota for any remaining help and she told him that it was only for him to hear.
Shota began to talk of the Wizards during the Great War. She talked of the name of the First Wizard at that time, Baraccus, and his relation to Richard. He also was married to the woman who became the first Confessor similiar to Kahlan being the only Confessor current time. She then explained his importance to Richard. A spy wizard during this time accessed the Temple of Winds and was able to corrupt the gift, so less people would be born with it and it would die out but also that in the distant future a dream walker would be born to lead the Old World to victory in the war. Baraccus discovering the problem when he went to check the problem could not change either, but instead made sure that a war wizard would be born to protect the New World. Richard is the war wizard and Jagang is the dream walker. Baraccus also left a book that he wrote in the Temple of Winds explaining all of the powers of a war wizard giving Richard the powers to win the war.
This chapter is set the stage of what Richard must face. The Imperial Order is looming over the remaining New World, the Sisters of Dark are close to causing the Keeper to engulf the world of the living, and Six is collecting seemingly unconnected items and causing problems that need to be addressed. The salvation seems to be this book, but no one knows were it is.

After Jebra was done with her tale, Richard tried to explain the importance of Chainfire to Shota and how it needs to be dealt with. Shota is skeptical since she does not see it in the flows of time, but Richard still believes it is a great threat.
The story helps show the evils of the Order, but also that they are not different than the people in the New World, but they are indoctrinated from a young age to corrupt their beliefs and conform them to the Order. Resistance in this setting meant death, and unlike we saw in the Old World there could be no resistance of the mind because those with it were quickly noticed and eliminated. It gave and grave warning of the future if Richard fails.

Kids Ruling School
I do not think letting students control what they do all day is a good idea. In a small controlled environment it may help encourage some people to work harder and find answers to questions they pose, but in a large environment it could become just a social event. Some parts of school may not fit well with people's personalities, but nothing will fit everyone perfectly. I think the current school system promotes people to apply themselves for grades they desire while teaching at a level that can be achieved by most.
Phantom pg 103-138
Jerba begins to tell what happened after Zed sent her to watch over the Queen of Galea and to help her out of her illness. Cyrilla feared the Order and devoted everything to isolating themselves in a defense she believed could hold out the Order. Anyone who spoke against her was convicted of treason, and when Jerba had a vision of the destruction that would happen if they stayed isolated she was thrown in jail for such thoughts being treasonous against the country. Zed reveals the Wizard's Tenth Rule explaining this action that people will try to avoid their fears even if it means irrational action. The rule is: "Willfully turning aside the truth is treason to one's self." Jerba waited in prison for a long time and then the attack of the Order begun.
We learned that Richard must change his coarse of action if he wants victory. We also learned a new Wizard's Rule. Hiding from the truth does not change it. We must face it and guard against the repercussions that it will lead to. The knowledge of Samuel's bewitchment leads to questions on how attacking for the One Box of Orden and Rachel relate. Rachel originally helped hide on of the boxes from Darken Rahl, but I am unsure of the relation.

The Imperial Order let their emotions of anger at Nicci's attack overrule the reason that should have made them question charging after her. They allowed themselves to fall into a planned trap by blindly seeking retribution. Using reason in stressful situations is the difference between success and failure sometimes. We must be aware of traps that surround us and defend against them.

I was surprised on the new side of Cara that quickly emerged in these chapters. There were hints that she had a different nature that the rigid determined protection of Richard that was her duty, but it really emerged in this chapter. Evidence of Kahlen disappear keeps accumulating, but people are still dismissing Richard. I am not sure I would believe him at first, but the holes in others memories when he makes some points would have been strong evidence to me. I believe that I have a good memory, so suddenly forgetting things would draw more concern from me.

Richard has arrived at Altur'rang and tries once more to convince them of the reality of Kahlen. They still do not concede to the point, but soon he finds other important matters at hand. The Imperial Order is coming to take back Altur'rang with a sizable force and they have a wizard with them. Richard decides that Nicci needs to stay and help them defend the city while he continues his journey.
I think Richard in his despair is missing things. In his argument for Kahlen's existence he did not push key points that would they could not have explained, and an easy solution of finding someone who can back him up is Jennsen because she is not effected by normal magic. Even if she cannot remember that reduces the causes down significantly. He is breaking the Wizard's Third Rule: Passion rules Reason. His is allowing himself to become distraught because of worrying which is distracting him from key pieces of the puzzle that he normally observes.

Chainfire pg 60-126
Nathan back in Owen's homeland found a concealed storage of prophecies, but something is unusual about them. He knows some of the books, but they have blank area's that he did not remember, but he cannot remember and other word that are there although he knows there should be. He tries to show Ann to see if she can explain the discrepancy, but she does not know what is happening either.
The beast is worrisome because that is most likely the cause of Kahlen's disappearance. When I was reading the the problem that Nathen knew was there but could not figure out, the problem occurred to me. Kahlen is in prophecy along with Richard, so the missing blanks in the books of Richard's prophecy are Kahlen. She did not only disappear from peoples memory, but she disappeared from the existence even in the books that were written over 3000 years before this point. The cause of her disappearance is strong. I think since Richard was near death when the magic to cause people to forget Kahlen was released it did not effect him, and that is why only he remembers her, or the bond between which prevents the confessor power from affecting him also wards this magic as well.

Eating Fiber Increases Life Span
High Fiber Diets have been linked with lower chances of heart disease, infectious and respiratory illness, cancer, and an overall longer life span in this study. People with high fiber diets were 22% less likely to die from any cause compared to those who had lower amounts. Confounding variables such as weight, education level, smoking and health status were taken into account. They suggest about 38 grams of fiber a day for men and 25 grams for women.
I knew fiber is a necessary nutrient we need daily , but I did not think it would have such a large impact on our health that this study suggests. It even says that fiber may have strong immune benefits. More insight into how the study was preformed is found at http://www.cbs6albany.com/news/fiber-1282873-grams-study.html showing it was a prospective study with 31,000 participents. Although these results strongly show correlation, I am sure more evidence is still being complied to help support or verify causation.

Observations on the Walton Ford painting Buddha Purnima
In the painting “Buddha Purnima” by Walter Ford the monkey carrying fruit on the crocodile’s back with small monkey bones nearby on the island alludes to the folly of the monkey and the crocodile’s seduction which will help fill its belly. The scene of the picture at first glance appears lighthearted with the monkey and the crocodile cooperating to see the monkey to the shore safely, but when carefully inspected the crocodile’s seductiveness is revealed. The first clue is the mingled pieces of bones in the right corner of the painting suggesting the hostile intent. The detail that captures the intent is in the distances, and it is what looks like a crocodile’s mouth with a monkey fearfully flailing to escape its fate. The threat is not realized by the monkey which has a reassuring hand on the back of the crocodile suggesting the monkey’s unfailing trust in its ferry. The monkey is also clutching the fruits it has scavenged like a precious treasure. The value of his cargo seems to distract the monkey of his surroundings allowing him to fall into obvious trap. The obliviousness of the monkey due to the distraction of his treasure implies that we to may fail victim to allowing perceived valuables distract us from hostile surroundings and lead to misfortune.
The picture reminds me of the fable of the crocodile and the monkey in which a crocodile becomes friends with a monkey, and the crocodile’s wife demands for him to get the monkey’s heart, so he takes the monkey on the water to eat him, but the monkey tricks the crocodile to get back to land. Except in this painting, it appears the crocodile gets the heart.
